The Process
It’s no secret that working with snake sheds is an arduous process. Depending on the quality and species of the shed, an artwork can be a relatively straightforward process or a scale by scale reconstruction.
The difference between species is amazing too, they differ in scale size, texture, thickness, and the way the sheds respond to the medium. Every new species that I get a shed from is a seperate learning experience.
Adding to the difficulty, complete sheds are surprisingly hard to source, as most snakes slough off in pieces. Once the snake shed is applied, there’s no going back.
For each shed, I consider the nature of the species and the environments that they live in, which guides the colours I bring to the piece.
My appreciation for these creatures is behind every piece, hopefully I get to share that with you.
